This is the corner of the shop used for the primary purpose of hand and machine sanding.
In the design, I wanted to incorporate a down draft to filter the dust and pull the dust away from the user. It needed to have a fairly large sturdy top that could also be used for securing pieces while using hand planes or chisels. This is the reason a substantial hardwood edge was used on all sides of top with holes for bench dogs. Six drawers for storage was also included in the design. The two large drawers on the right are used to store some of the routers and accessories and the four drawers on the left are for sandpaper, sanding blocks and special sanding devices among other items. I also wanted the piece to have a somewhat interesting look and feel.

Air is drawn from the top and escapes through the bottom and baffled through the front grille also	Below the to pegboard surface is a plywood layer with holes and routed grooves so dust can be drawn down across the entire top	A furnace filter was installed above the fan to capture the dust before it reached the fan
The top portion of the cabinet needed to be blocked off from the cavities where the drawers are located. For the purpose of better air flow a shallow air duct was designed into each side above the drawer cavities	The center cavity is where the fan is located.	This is the exhaust. The air flows out through the opening in the bottom and the grille baffle in the front.
